Sea The Stars retired
SEA THE STARS, arguably the best racehorse in the world, has been retired. There is major disappointment in many circles, however, as it was anticipated he would contest the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita next month, with Kieren Fallon among those who would have liked to see him race in the US, the Racing Post reported. "He's been a brilliant horse, and it was a fine training performance," Fallon told the paper. "Personally, I'd like to have seen him run in the Breeders' Cup because Santa Anita has such a good surface, and it would have been great for racing."

Star City officially launches new sports venue
Star City Casino welcomed a new sports and entertainment venue last night. The launch of the new Sports Bar had all the glitz and glamour of an awards evening and one thing's for sure, they were all impressed at the fantastic set up. With the sounds of international superstar band Eskimo Joe, the Halo Bar was welcomed into Tabcorp's Star City with a bang! The new TAB area is a pioneer in itself, with it arguably becoming the first TAB to offer paperless formguides. All the formguides are electronic and presented on screens around the walls - score one for the environmentalists! A huge screen with grandstand seating dominates the new area, and at capacity, would give anyone the feel of actually being at a live sporting event. On top of this, the bar itself is 48 metres long and is the longest of its kind in Australia. Mind you, it isn't 48 metres long in one straight line, rather, it is a full circle which is situated right in the middle of the new arena. A cast of thousands were in attendance, with no less than Dragons winger Wendell Sailor, former Wallaby Lote Tuqiri and a host of media personalities including Mickey Robbins, Erin McNaught and Fox Sports' Ryan Phelan were all there to celebrate the opening of Sydney's new home to live sports and betting entertainment! Well done Tabcorp and Star City - your new Halo Bar is something Sydney has desperately needed for some time.

Spring Carnival shake-up
The multi-million dollar Spring Racing Carnival could come under threat from industrial strike action from jockeys. Yesterday (Thursday), jockeys from Hawkesbury, Ballarat, Ipswich and Northam were abandoned mid-afternoon after jockeys decided they could not follow the contentious new whip rules imposed under the Australian Racing Board. While tomorrow's race meetings will go ahead, jockeys have warned they will boycott the Spring Carnival racedays unless the ARB changes its stance.
