Tabcorp secure naming rights to major events
HARNESS Racing Victoria (HRV) has announced that global wagering and entertainment giant
Tabcorp will sponsor two of the State's marquee events for the next two years.
Under the lucrative arrangement, Tabcorp has attained the naming rights to the prestigious
Australasian Breeders Crown and renewed its sponsorship of Victoria's signature race, the
Hunter Cup.
The nation's richest and most outstanding handicap will again be known as the
BIG6 Hunter Cup and promote Tabcorp's life-changing bet type which was launched in January 2009.
The Australasian Breeders Crown sponsorship will promote the Tabcorp brand and take in the heats, repechages and finals of the series which brings together the Southern Hemisphere's premier two, three and four-year-old pacers and trotters in a season-ending showdown.
Today's announcement comes on the back of the official opening on July 5 of Tabcorp Park, Victorian harness racing's new metropolitan home at Melton, which carries the Tabcorp brand under a separate sponsorship agreement.
"We're delighted to welcome Tabcorp on board as the naming rights sponsor of the BIG6 Hunter Cup and the Tabcorp Australasian Breeders Crown,"
HRV Chairman, Neil Busse, said.
"This agreement further strengthens the positive relationship we enjoy with our joint venture partner Tabcorp who is indeed committed to the success of harness racing in Victoria.
"The BIG6 Hunter Cup and the Tabcorp Australasian Breeders Crown are two of the three biggest harness racing events in Victoria and this agreement helps to consolidate their future.
"With the opening of Tabcorp Park, the industry's new $45 million racing and entertainment complex at Melton, the road ahead is an exciting one in Victoria and we thank Tabcorp for the role they have played in supporting the development of harness racing in this State."
Tabcorp's Managing Director of Wagering, Robert Nason, said his organisation welcomed the opportunity to be involved in the sponsorship of such prestigious events.
"It gives Tabcorp great pleasure to extend our support of harness racing in Victoria through our sponsorship of the BIG6 Hunter Cup and the Australasian Breeders Crown," Mr Nason said.
"We are particularly delighted to be adding the Tabcorp Australasian Breeders Crown to the portfolio of races we sponsor.
"Following this month's successful opening of Tabcorp Park, Tabcorp looks forward to continuing to support the Victorian harness racing industry as it enters an exciting era."
The 2010 BIG6 Hunter Cup will carry $400,000 in stakes and be run on Saturday night, February 6 at Moonee Valley. It will feature alongside the Inter Dominion Trotting Grand Final and Alabar Victoria Derby Final on what is the second last harness meeting at Moonee Valley.
Interstate and New Zealand heats of the 2009 Tabcorp Australasian Breeders Crown are currently being run with the first Victorian heats set down for Monday, July 27 at Geelong.
The series will reach its crescendo with four meetings over nine days at Tabcorp Park from August 14 and culminate with a monster $1.55m raceday featuring a record nine Group 1 races on Super Sunday, August 23.
Super Sunday is a fully ticketed event meaning admission will be granted via pre-purchased tickets only. Admission tickets and dining packages are now on sale at Ticketmaster via
www.ticketmaster.com.au or on 136 100.
